Why We Built This Site

David and Brian are two guys from two completely separate families who happened to become friends, discovered they had the same frustration about baby product reviews, and decided to do something about it. Between David’s household and Brian’s household: 12 kids, 36 grandchildren, and over 40 years of buying, testing, and arguing about gear. Neither of them was looking for a business partner — they were just looking for better information, and could not find it.

Their families crossed paths when their oldest kids were toddlers and the neighborhood was full of parents comparing notes on strollers and car seats. Back then, the best product advice came from other dads and moms in the room — not from the internet. Today the internet has no shortage of reviews, but most of them are written by people who have had one child, tested something for a week, and called it authoritative.

We wanted to fix that. Between us we have 12 kids at every stage — including a 3-year-old who is actively testing things right now — and 36 grandchildren across the extended family providing real-world feedback on gear. Our kids range from age 3 to 21+. That age range is not a marketing point; it is what makes us genuinely useful to you.

Meet the Founders

Co-Founder

David M.

6 Children (Ages 3–21+)  ·  18+ Grandchildren  ·  22 Years

Started buying baby gear in the early 2000s and has not stopped since — the youngest is still in pull-ups. David has seen three generations of car seats, four stroller styles, and more bottle warmers than he cares to count. His current focus is on how gear designed for modern parents holds up for grandparent caregivers. Spoiler: most of it does not.

Co-Founder

Brian K.

6 Children (Ages 8–19)  ·  18 Grandchildren  ·  20 Years

The tech half of the operation. Brian stress-tests smart home baby gear, app-connected monitors, and anything that requires a Wi-Fi password. He runs it all through one filter: can his father-in-law set it up on a Saturday morning without calling anyone? That filter has killed more than a few five-star Amazon products. His specialty is travel gear — the family has logged more than 200,000 miles with kids in tow.

The Testing Network

Beyond the two of us, the extended HRG family handles the situations we cannot cover ourselves. The family dogs have broken four products we were about to recommend.

Grandparents

Test for ease of use and safety when parents are not around. If grandma cannot buckle the car seat on the first try, that goes in the review.

City Dwellers

Aunts in city apartments test small-space scenarios — strollers up subway stairs, compact cribs in studios, bags that fit under bus seats.

Rural Testers

Uncles on rural properties test durability on gravel driveways, in muddy boots, and through genuine outdoor chaos that no lab replicates.

What We Stand For

Honesty Over Revenue

We lose affiliate commissions on products we cannot recommend. That is fine. Our credibility is worth more than any single commission.

No Paid Endorsements

Brands do not pay to appear here. Affiliate relationships are always disclosed and never change our ratings.

Grandparent Perspective

A product that a 30-year-old parent uses easily may frustrate a grandparent doing solo childcare. We test for both — because both matter.

Safety First, Always

CPSC recalls, ASTM standards, and AAP guidelines are checked on every product in every category. Aesthetics never override safety.

Long-Term Over First Impression

We track products across siblings. If it fails by Child #3, we update the review. A product that holds up for years earns our highest marks.

A Note on Affiliate Relationships

We participate in affiliate programs including Amazon Associates. When you buy through our links, we earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This is what funds the site. We only recommend gear that would survive our own 12 kids — if it is on this list, it has been tested, not just photographed. Full details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page .
